Sometimes, You All You Can Do is Laugh!

"We are watching the March 3-4 time frame for a big storm system that has the potential to produce a lot of snow for some locations. The storm signal is strong and has the support of all 3 major global models. The European and Canadian model are the most aggressive on the snowfall potential, while the GFS is warmer and shifts the snow further north."

Snow, Snow and More Snow!

I'm going to be very sad when I can't go to a fair with my friends on the Fourth of July because I've used up all my time on snow days.  Could someone please go find the groundhog and explain that six more weeks of winter could be just cold.  It does not have to be six more weeks of constant snow.

Yesterday began with a foot of snow.  I cleaned off my car.  Then we had hours of rain/sleet/snow mix.  Then we had seven more inches of snow overnight.

Howie was not happy this morning.  Not until I gave him a snowhawk!  They haven't even attempted to plow my street.  I considered hiking in to work but under the seven inches of snow are two inches of frozen sleet/rain/snow mix that accumulated after they plowed yesterday.  So I am not walking anywhere.

Tomorrow I will again clean off my car as we are to have more snow tonight.  Yes, definitely time to have a talk with that damn groundhog!

Off to watch more Olympics, the only good part about all of this.  Happy weekend, all!

People...

Are getting really weird. Have you noticed? Maybe it’s just here because it’s been so hot lately. And we haven’t had more than half an hour of rain at a time for two months now. Yeah, last week’s storm fizzled without doing much of anything.

I think that’s the problem. Not enough ozone zinging through the air, zapping people out of their doldrums. I know some of you like all this sunshine but enough’s enough. Too much of it and it gets downright depressing.

Especially if you’re like me. Sunshine is way too bright when my head hurts. Which it’s been doing a lot of lately due to the heat and lack of storms. Even though I spend my work days in front of a lovely ac vent my head still knows how hot and yucky it is outside. Yes, the artificial coolness helps with migraines but it doesn’t eliminate them all together. And at some point I do eventually have to go back out there so what little relief I’ve had is vanquished.

Come on winter! Since it seems there won’t be any decent thunderstorms let’s see some snow.

I Admit It

I’m odd. I love cold weather. I even enjoy the occasional light snowfall. The world is pretty, cloaked in silent white.

But I’m about done with this nonsense. We’re having two to six or more inches of snow tonight. Wouldn’t be so bad except the edges of my street, as in where I attempt to park, are already saturated with snow, some that has been compacted into ice, difficult for Howie to maneuver, some of which has frozen solid in its fullest state, too deep for Howie to cross without risking damage to his belly. Then there’s the parking lot at work. It’s lost four spaces to snow piles. There’s only one separating mine from the snow. Much more and I’ll be out of luck too.

And oh yeah, did I mention what’s to follow this evening’s snowfall? Sleet, turning to freezing rain with up to an inch accumulation. Howie and I don’t like freezing rain. We don’t go out and about in ice storms. Well, Howie doesn’t. Sometimes I have no choice.

Therefore, I’d like to put in my request for two or three slightly warmish days to melt all this slop off the streets and then it can go back to being cold again. Yep. I like the cold part just fine.

Happy winter!

(Sorry I haven't been here lately. My much beloved great aunt passed away and I needed some time to regroup.)

They Fibbed

The weathermen that is. We were supposed to have a possibility of a brief snow shower late this evening. Well, it’s been snowing for most of the day. This morning was odd, more of a snow mist than real snow. At lunch it began to snow for real, big flakes, lots of them. And it’s still snowing.

The window I sit beside at work looks out into a walled garden and that was snow covered from yesterday’s snow when I got in this morning. At one point, I was doing something on the other side of the room and glanced out. Nothing but wet. Half an hour later and everything was white.

I put nuts out for the squirrels and the poor things had trouble finding them by the time they wandered into the yard. And then, by the time they did manage to dig them out, their tails were white with snow.

Don’t get me wrong here. I love snowy days. They’re just a little hard to enjoy when you’re trapped at work during the daylight hours and know you have to drive home with a bunch of crazy people. Too bad we aren’t like the schools who close on days like this.

Howie was not at all happy coming home but then even the fancy SUV’s were all only going about 4 mph so I’m not going to judge his snowability on today. Reading was caught unprepared and did very little to the streets and everyone else was sliding, not just us. But he got me home safe and sound so what more could I ask for? Well, other than tomorrow off but that’s not going to happen unless we get a hell of a lot more snow than this.

Thanks to everyone who enter our contest.
The winners are: First prize – Ray, second prizes – Charisse and Gaynor.

I Was Bad

But in my defense I was justified.

When I first moved to Reading the bar on my corner was a real dive. The kind only the regulars and those on a dare went to. I won’t tell you which I was. Back then there was no parking lot so we who lived in the block had to jockey for spaces with the regulars. Let me tell you it was damn annoying, especially in bad weather.

I was like everyone else when it snowed. I shoveled my space and put something in it to save it for me even though it was technically illegal. Hey, I’m tired at the end of the day. The last thing I want to do is hunt for a parking space and then hike however many blocks home from wherever it is.

The first winter I remember one particularly deep snow. Yes, it actually snowed for real back then. I came home just as one of the regulars was parking in my space. My street is narrow. There’s parking on both sides and only one lane of traffic. I got out and yelled at him to move his car. Guess what? He laughed at me. That’s right. He laughed at me and proceeded into the bar.

Wrong thing to do. I left my car where it was and went inside to change my clothes. I couldn’t get away with that now since Reading’s cracked down on double-parkers. They’ve finally figured out what an excellent source of income that is so you now get a fine within minutes. But I’m getting sidetracked.

So I was changed and back out in the street. With my trusted snow shovel in hand. Figure it out yet? No? I was in the process of shoveling the snow I had removed back into the space, packing it tightly around the offender’s tires and up along the driver’s side door when some of the other regulars who lived within walking distance arrived. Of course they recognized the car and paused to watch. Finally one of them asked what I was doing. I very calmly explained that as I saw it I shoveled the snow out of the space so I could therefore shovel it back in if I chose to.

Within half a minute the car owner was out to move his vehicle, apologizing profusely as he went. And do you know what? I never had any trouble after that. Can’t imagine why, can you?
