Sad

This is why I had to move the water bowl I keep outside away from the house. They were upsetting my furbabies because they discuss things while they drink. There is also a huge orange tabby who oversees things, the tan tabby who is the town crier and the tortie girl from last spring though I don't see her often and very rarely when the others are around.

Rudely Awakened

There’s a new town crier in my neighborhood.  The past few years there was a huge tiger cat who would stroll through the yard, announcing his arrival as he came.  He’d stand where he could be easily seen from the back living room and side dining room windows.  My cats would hop up on the sills and get the scoop on the neighborhood.

The tiger seems to have been replaced.  There is now a very loud mostly black kitty who comes to share the local gossip.  He hasn’t learned to paraphrase yet.  Over the weekend he spent several hours talking in my yard.  He stayed so long that my cats lost interest and wandered off to nap.

Last night, in the wee hours of the morning, he returned and decided to sit on the outside of the non-functioning air conditioner while my cats perched on the inside of it.  Or so I’m guessing.  All I know is somehow the alarm system was triggered at that window.  At 3:45 AM.  This morning there were footprints on the top of the ac unit outside and my cats were afraid to scamper by it.

I’ve been happily ignoring that air conditioner for years.  It’s old and huge and very heavy.  Now however, I suppose I must deal with it.  Guess that’s the spot where my purging of useless things will begin.  Sigh.

My New Friend

I wandered outside at lunch today.  The kitty who hangs out in the courtyard was lounging under a coleus in the shade.  He seemed cozy and mellow so I inched closer and asked if we could be friends.  He didn't run, not even when I reached through the plant.  I ended up being allowed to pet him.  He even nudged my hand.  His name is Harlan.  Yep, he told me.

Happy weekend!

Success!

Did you know it takes less time to trap a cat than it does to chop up a pineapple? I know. Not a comparison you’d ever think of making, right? Well, I set the trap and went in to deal with the fresh pineapple I’d gotten at the dreaded store this week. Hey, I need some sort of reward for going. By the time I had the peal in the garbage and was taking it out to my trash can, the cat was caught.

I scurried back inside to grab the towel and carrier for the babies. Scooped them right up since they’d just eaten and were sound asleep. I put them right against the trap so mama could see them while we waited for the wonderful ladies to come get them. Let me tell you, the kittens are soooo sweet. Yes, I cuddled each one of them for a second before I put it in the towel. Of course I did. Did you think there was any chance I wouldn’t?

So mama and babies are off now. They will be checked over to ensure they’re healthy and then cared for until they can go to good, permanent homes. Some days life is good.
