Yay!

I am a happy girl. I ordered me new Crocs. Furry kids Crocs for winter. Ha! I discovered this particular style comes in junior sizes and yep, you guessed it. I have junior size feet. That’s how I had blinky shoes back when there were around too. You’re jealous now, aren’t you?

I know. I’m easily entertained. Not necessarily a bad thing as I see it.

Kinda along the same line only different, the Pike now serves the full menu plus specials on wing nights. That means I can have knife and fork food any time I feel like it. When I don’t want to cook it myself, I mean. Yes, I can cook. I cook quite well actually. It’s just lately I haven’t felt like bothering. Why should I when I can go for a short stroll and have all sorts of yummy choices for a very reasonable amount and have it made for me with no dishes to do when I’m finished? Ooh. Perhaps I shouldn’t be telling you this. You all might invade and then there won’t be room for me. Hmm, if you do come, save me a spot, would ya please? They have ultra nummy pumpkin spice cake in honor of the upcoming holidays right now. Un huh. You’re on the way, I can tell.

Kya’s decided that the toy mice need to learn to swim. She keeps dropping them in the water bowl and then sitting there, waiting for them to do something besides sink. Silly cat. She’s as easily entertained as I am but at least I’m not sitting there watching with her. I wait until I hear several splashes and then I go rescue them. Do you think perhaps I’m her entertainment, not the mice?

It’s almost cookie baking season. Don’t get any ideas here. I’m not the one doing the baking although I am capable of that as well. I have absolutely no ingredients and I’ve discovered it’s much easier to wander over to Riley’s house and keep her kidlettes company while they bake. It’s a lot of fun and they’re very sweet, sending home a tin of cookies with me. Eva May’s family bakes too and I’m way overdue for a visit there. Yep, I admit it. I’m shameless when it comes to cookies. Good thing my friends are so indulgent.

Random Thoughts

I want lemon sponge in a cup. My great aunt has a yummy recipe that she shared with me. I’ve made it. She said it turned out as good as hers but I don’t think so. Hers is much better. I think that has something to do with her making it. I really don’t want to be a little kid again for real but I wouldn’t mind going back in time for a day just to have that. Hmm, while I’m there I’d like to have some of her candied nuts that she used to make at Christmas. And my grandmother’s slicker pie that she always made out of leftover pastry when she was making something else and let me mix together with my fingers. That was fun!

Strawberries are the only fruit with seeds on the outside. Do you think that was on purpose?

I saw a really cool pair of high top sneakers in a magazine. You know. The plain canvas ones like they had when I was a kid. Not the fancy ones like are out there now. Only now the old-fashioned ones cost $62.00. But they’re cute so they’d be worth having. I wish I knew someone with money who likes me. Maybe I could take up a collection from all the people who are annoyed by my multicolored Crocs and buy myself some. Or maybe not since I want the pair that’s four shades of blue mixed together like they sewed them together wrong. I don’t think I’ll mention that. I’ll show them the picture of the bland white ones instead.

Why does my choice of footwear bother some people? I don’t get it. I’m always well-behaved and wear a matched pair. I’ve often been tempted to wear two different colors. Maybe I will just to see how much additional annoyance that causes. They’d probably think I lost my mind, that it wasn’t intentional, and not say a word. Yeah, I might have to test that one.

My squirrels are fat and sassy these days. I think they’ve been eating everything lately instead of stocking up for winter. They seem to have things backwards since they spent the summer burying the nuts I put out. I had someone call me from a block away to tell me she found almonds in her flower pot. Silly squirrels.

I think I’m going out for dinner tonight. I’m not really sure. I was talking to a friend at lunch and it was mentioned and I may have agreed to it but I’m not positive. I can either call and ask which will cause all sorts of amusement or just hang out for a half hour and see if she shows up. Yeah, I think I’ll go with that. Maybe I’ll go change one of my shoes while I wait. She’s one who’d just laugh and shake her head at me. If she doesn’t appear I might wander over to the Pike and see what tonight’s specials are. They always have something yummy. Maybe I’ll call first. It makes Cory the bartender laugh when I call and ask him what’s for dinner. The Phillies lost so it shouldn’t be too packed at this time of night. Sounds like a plan. See ya.

More Rain Please

I woke up during the night with Harry sleeping in the middle of my back. Not a big deal. There’s often a cat on top of a part of me. The problem this time, however, is that I had my arm twisted around in a weird way and Harry kept it trapped there. So today, it hurts like hell all by itself. Little things like shifting Howie, typing this, simply turning my wrist are enough to make me want to cry. And picking something up? Forget it.

It made walking in to work rather interesting since we had another perfectly gorgeous rainy day. Had I been going anywhere else I wouldn’t have attempted the umbrella. Normally I love to walk in the rain. I don’t mind being a little wet at all. But I really didn’t think it would go over well if I shorted out my computer because I was dripping on it.

As far as that goes the whole week has been very hard on me. It’s rained every day and for the most part, I’ve been stuck inside and unable to enjoy it. What a waste. Sometimes you just need to take a stroll in the rain. It soothes your soul. Well, it does mine anyway. Yep, could’ve used some soul soothing this week. And of course it's going to be sunny this weekend. Damn!

There are those that snicker at my collection of multi-colored crocs. I just added a pair that looks like tree bark. With a butterfly charm. Still don’t have any yellow ones though but do I need them since Howie is yellow? But I digress. Where was I? Oh yeah. Something they don’t realize is that crocs are plastic and easily removed. That means I can kick my crocs off for a few minutes and both my feet and my shoes are dry while they sit around in soggy socks. Ha!

Okay, I’ve rambled enough. Time to shut up before I go somewhere I shouldn’t. Have a good weekend.

I Wonder...

I got new Crocs today. Any day when I can say that is a good day. I have the worst feet in the world, probably because I grew up in earth shoes and wooden clogs, and Crocs are the only shoes that never hurt. The fact that they come in a rainbow of colors is an added benefit. If that's not good enough you can also get charms to personalize them. Yep, I have a "B" on each left shoe plus something that holds a special memory on each right one. Didn't know so much thought went into this sort of thing, did you?

Have you ever tried a pair? The insides have little ridges that give you a foot massage while you walk. And they're springy/spongy so each step is cushioned. Not to mention that they weigh absolutely nothing so it's like being barefoot without worrying about stepping on something sharp. Then there are the furry ones. Mm, toasty and comfy.

I already had beach (grape, chartruese), baya (sea blue), mammoth (pink), islander (cream/sky) and mary jane (lavendar, lime) Crocs. Today I added relief in practical black and white. Relief are made specifically for arthritic feet and yes, there really is a difference. The ultimate comfort just got maximized.

So here's what I'm wondering. I wear my Crocs every day so no one even reacts to the colors anymore. Do you think anyone would comment if I mixed and matched them? Or would they just assume I wasn't paying attention when I put my shoes on in the morning? Perhaps they'd think I finally lost what little was left of my mind? Would anyone even notice as long as I stuck to mixing colors and didn't swap styles too?

Yes, I know. I'm rambling terribly. Forgive me. It was one of those days and now that I'm home my mind doesn't feel like it. Who knows what I'd be babbling about if my new Crocs hadn't come today!

I went to the dentist today...

And had a blast! No, I don’t have some weird fetish. I just have a great dentist with an awesome staff.

First there’s the receptionist. She’s known me since I was maybe 5. When the dentist from back then sold his practice she seems to have been part of the deal. Since I’ve known her forever we caught up when I walked in which included talk of the job I got since I was there last. Can’t go into details on that one but believe me, it left her shaking her head. And of course I handed over my newest bookmark. Yep, the whole office knows all about my writing and they’ve been supportive and interested from the beginning. Kind of amusing since my mother goes to the same dentist. I think they know more about my books than she does!

Then there’s the dental assistant. She’s done some amazing things in her life and I always look forward to chatting with her. I introduced her to the whole ebook thing and I’m happy to report that she is building quite a library. I think my books are included.

Next is the hygienist and her massaging chair. Mm, anyone else ever have trouble staying awake while having your teeth cleaned? She hugged me when I answered her query about how the new book was going. We have had some truly interesting discussions over the years. I thought there’d be another today only the dentist stole me right out of her chair and cleaned my teeth himself. I have no idea why. Does your dentist ever do that? Conversations with him generally include a report of books we recently read and Broadway shows we either saw or have tickets for. Today was no exception. We also talked about my car situation since last time I was there mine broke down as I got there and wouldn’t start afterwards. Can you believe he remembered?

Before I left I set up my next appointment with the hygienist who expressed her disappointment at missing our chat. Actually, I was a bit disappointed too. I had some questions to follow up on what she’d told me six months ago and now I’ll have to remember for another six months.

As I was on my way out the receptionist noticed my new Crocs, Mary Janes in lavender with an Eeyore charm. That got us back into our ongoing discussion of the merits of Crocs.

So that was my visit to the dentist today. Now do you understand why I eagerly anticipate these appointments instead of dreading them?
