It's That Time Again

I don’t need to have TV to know that the listings are overflowing with Christmas specials and holiday movies. Feel good, sometimes sappy with hardships but all with a happy ending. Don’t misread what I’m saying. There’s nothing wrong with that. Some are even good movies.

But they’re false advertising. Life, real life, doesn’t always have a happy ending. Problems aren’t magically resolved. Some can’t be overcome no matter how hard they’re worked at. A stranger does not show up on the doorstep to make everything better.

There are people hungry now who will continue to be long after the holidays are over. There are still hardworking people losing their jobs to the economy. There are people losing their homes. There are dedicated, longtime employees being forced out of their jobs by circumstances that should not be tolerated. There are people with hearts full of love who have no one to share it with, lonelier than ever.  There are people going without much needed medical care because they can no longer afford health insurance even though they have decent jobs. There are people giving up treasured pets, their only source for comfort because they are unable to continue caring for them. There are people who are sad to begin with that slip into deep depressions they may not survive. This list could go on and on but I think you get my point.

Life is not a movie. Many who struggle all year round suffer even more this time of year. As you go about your daily lives try to keep that in mind and be a little kinder to those you meet. They may be crying behind their smiles. You, if you act with decency and compassion, could make a difference without ever knowing it. Isn’t that the true essence of the season?

Life

Dream big
Dream small
Dream the dream of having it all

Some will fade
Some will grow
The ones to hold your heart will know

Have no doubts
And fear you not
Patience, courage and talent you’ve got

Always and without question
This I know tis true
Good things are to come for I have faith in you

You know, I really don’t require much. I’d like to have enough that I’m not living paycheck to paycheck as I’ve been doing for longer than I can remember. I want enough that I can share with my friends. Both when they truly need it and when they don’t. Say an impromptu picnic, perhaps.

In the middle of a stretch of chaos today I paused and had a moment. There is so much more to life than what mine presently is. Not more as in expensive stuff. I’m talking intangibles. Unfortunately, the path to them requires money as well so for now, I am here. Waiting. Maybe for just a little while. Maybe forever.

Where are you in your life?

Please?

Okay, I confess. I’m bad. I’ve always been bad. Apparently not just in this life since I’m obviously being punished now in ways that are far too harsh to justify with what I’ve done in my current lifetime.

To the cosmic powers that be, my humblest apologies. May I come home please? I promise to behave as best I can for as long as possible though I warn you, I’ll never be perfect.

This place you’ve sent me is coldhearted and unfriendly and it’s sucking the life out of me. I really need to get home, before I’m crushed beyond recognition.

Is anyone out there? Can you hear me? Do you care? Or have you banished me to this wasteland and forgotten all about me now that I’m no longer there, wrecking havoc, being a thorn in your collective sides.

Please, I beg of you. Send help before it’s too late!

Sorry

There's something important I have to take care of and I just can't do this too. I can't explain now but I will when I'm back, promise. Until then, treasure the little the things because in the end, they're the ones the mean the most.

Friday Stuff

Two of my boys are having their teeth cleaned today. I know it's necessary but when did this start? Cat dentistry. Have you ever tried to brush a cat's teeth? Let me tell you, it's not easy. The pleasantly flavored malt toothpaste that they're supposed to relish either isn't all that pleasant or my cats are weird. Hm, that could be since they don't eat the pleasantly flavored vitamins either. They do like the molasses flavored hairball remedy but that would be like brushing their teeth with cat candy and probably defeat the purpose.

I finally had my taxes done. Nope, don't want to talk about it. After all it's only money. Course it would be nice if I had some but life goes on. Funny thing, that. No matter what catastrophe befalls one person, life for absolutely everyone else in the entire world continues.

Update - There was an emergency at the vet's today so Harry ended up being last. He has to spend the night. Now I'm sad. I hate it when the boys aren't home with me.
