Breathing Room, Final Days

I know I've already posted this several times.  I won't apologize for being repetitive because the cause is such a good one and it is still short of reaching the goal.

Lance has promised anyone who contributes $10 or more and signed copy of his first book, the instant it becomes available.  Donations less than that will receive a personal poem penned by the man himself.  Do you know what collectors items these will one day be?  I suspect you don't.  This man is brilliant.  I have no doubt that he will eventually be known as THE writer of this generation.  And you could have something of his from the very beginning.  Imagine what a treasure that will be!

So please, find it in your heart to take a moment and read about this.  And then click here to go contribute. You have until Wednesday, October 2nd so don't delay. There is no one more deserving.  Every little bit will help and little bits add up into a lot!  Thank you for helping Lance get back to following his dream.

From Breathing Room:

If you have a minute, I’d like to tell you a little story.  A true story.
My very dear friend and one of the best men you’ll ever encounter is in need of some assistance.  His name is Lance Cheuvront and he is a writer.  But he is no ordinary writer. He is a modern-day storyteller who weaves magic into written poetry and prose. It is obvious to those who read his work that he will one day be known as THE writer of this generation.
Lance has an inexplicable knack of being able to write anything he sets his mind to; novels, short stories, poetry, essays. He addresses both fiction and non-fiction with the same reverence and finesse. His words evoke emotion and make people feel, think, and see the world in new ways.

In February of 2011, Lance was admitted to the hospital for the first of nine stays that eventually totaled thirteen months. He was diagnosed with pneumonia and lung issues for which an immediate cause was not clear. Since March of this year, his health has greatly improved, but his lungs are still delicate and must be monitored carefully in order to avoid a relapse.  Given time and a positive environment, he is expected to make a full recovery, but returning to tiptop shape could take years.
Because of this he is unable to hold down a “normal” job. Therefore, here, at the beginning of his writing career, he is eeking by on extremely limited funds
A few months ago, his computer started giving him problems, crashing now and again. But now it is dead. In today's world, it is impossible for a writer to make it if he or she is without the technology publishers expect them to have as a given. This makes it damn near impossible for him to pursue his dream.
Please help my friend get reconnected.  If you can find it in your heart to donate to his cause and get him on the road to writing, please provide an address, e-mail or physical, so that he can write and thank you personally for your beautiful show of generosity.

I thank you so much for any help you can provide. I am confident that if we work together, we can work a miracle!

Too Weird

Even for me.

There was a man in Sweden who was acquitted of sex assault charges after being caught masturbating on the beach.  Apparently his actions weren’t directed at anyone else so it wasn’t a crime.  It may still be a misdemeanor but the report I read was still researching that.

At the end of the article it was mentioned how odd it seems, public masturbation not being a crime in Sweden, especially with such stringent child sex abuse laws, when there is a group attempting to make it illegal for men to stand while urinating in office restroom.  Much more hygienic to sit, no splashing, no puddles and all that. But it was argued that it is the shaking off afterwards that causes the problem, not the actual act of urinating so sitting is pointless.  No mention on how the party attempting to create this law intended on enforcing it.

Yes, I’m still searching for a part time job but no, I don’t think men’s restroom monitor is one I’ll be in any particular hurry to apply for.  On the other hand, it might provide with more entertaining conversation than working fast food.  Hmm.  Have to ponder that one.

Btw, there's still plenty of time to donate to Breathing Room.  Please do if you haven't already.  Every little bit helps!

Happy weekend all!

Today's Chuckle

I was playing and came across a site with weird laws.  Thought I’d share some with you.

Pennsylvania –

It is illegal to sleep on top of a refrigerator outdoors.

A person is not eligible to become Governor if he/she has participated in a duel.

It is illegal to have over 16 women live in a house together because that constitutes a brothel.

Florida –

The state constitution allows for freedom of speech, a trial by jury, and pregnant pigs to not be confined in cages.

Men may not be seen publicly in any kind of strapless gown.

A special law prohibits unmarried women from parachuting on Sunday or she shall risk arrest, fine, and/or jailing.

Minnesota –

Citizens may not enter Wisconsin with a chicken on their head.

All bathtubs must have feet.

A person may not cross state lines with a duck atop his head.

Georgia –

Donkeys may not be kept in bathtubs.

No one may carry an ice cream cone in their back pocket if it is Sunday.

It is illegal to use profanity in front of a dead body which lies in a funeral home or in a coroners office.

Washington –

The harassing of Bigfoot, Sasquatch or other undiscovered subspecies is a felony punishable by a fine and/or imprisonment.

It is illegal to pretend that one’s parents are rich.

A law to reduce crime states: “It is mandatory for a motorist with criminal intentions to stop at the city limits and telephone the chief of police as he is entering the town.

Yep, I’ll be doing this one again when we need a laugh.  There are many, many more.  In the meantime, what is it with wearing poultry in Minnesota?

Only a few weeks left.  Please contribute to Breathing Room if you haven't already.  Thank you!

Apologies

I’ve been scarce lately.

There’s lots going on.  The fundraiser for my friend, Lance.  Thank you to all who have contributed.  If you haven’t yet please don’t wait until the very end.  It’s going okay – 29% of goal –  but not well enough to allow me to relax.  We have almost enough for him to buy a refurbished computer.  That will be fine if that’s what’s necessary although we’d prefer a new one.  The man writes constantly.  A new one will hold up better and last longer.  Click here for what I’m rambling about.  For your contribution you will get a personal thank you from Lance once all is said and done.  You’re thinking so what, right?  Trust me.  One day he will be HUGE.  Save his thank yous and you will be able to prove you knew him when…

I’m still searching for that part time job.  Reading is the poorest city in the nation of its size so it’s not easy.  I felt positive with an interview I had last week but the answer was the good news is I passed all the required clearances, the bad news is they will not hire me because of my schedule.  That leaves me wondering why I was interviewed at all since availability was part of the initial online application.  It’s getting a bit frustrating but I will keep trying.  I did see an article about vaccinating mosquitoes against malaria.  No, I don’t mean give me wee tiny needles and I’ll capture them.  They are inoculating individuals and offering them up to the mosquitoes.  The little nasties adore me but this is not a high risk malaria area so I suspect that eliminates that option as a part time job for me.

In the meantime I am poking at Book 4, Jesse's story, of my CosmicConnections series.  It’s hard.  The rough draft was written during a rough patch of my life so the plot is rather heavy for an erotica.  But it’s a good story!  And I adore the characters.  There’s even bits of humor now and then to lighten it up.  All in all I think it’s worth the effort to polish it so I can then submit it for consideration.

What are you up to these days?

Please, Please, Please

Don't wait til the last minute.  I know there's still 40 days to go but I miss Lance sharing his new tale with me as he goes.  The sooner he has a new computer, the sooner you can read it too!

Click here to contribute to Breathing Room.  Remember, any little bit can help, even if it's just a few dollars.

Happy weekend, all!

Good Morning to You Too

I was in the office first this morning.  Before it was fully light outside.  I walked in, turned on the lights and the copier, stashed my lunch and wet about working.  An average beginning to my day.

I was sitting at my computer, checking on something when I caught movement.  In the form of something black crossing my field of vision.  I turned to watch it and saw it cross the room, turn the corner and head up the steps.

It was a bat.

Apparently I disturbed it when I turned the lights on.  It went upstairs where it was still semi-dark.  I finished up what I was working on, called someone to notify him of the bat’s presence, left a note on the interior door for the coworker due in next who is terrified of such things and went on my way.  I had something that needed immediate attention that took priority over the bat.

As expected, the coworker called to ensure I was serious.  She seemed very happy with me for not letting her encounter the bat.  The gentleman I called was still tied up when she approached him for assistance.  So another coworker came and rescued the poor creature.  It was just a tiny thing, much more scared of her than she was of it.

Upon last report the bat was seen fluttering away across the rooftops, hopefully to find itself a new home, preferably not inside our offices.

Only 42 days to left on the campaign to help writer Lance Cheuvront.  Please contribute today!  Click here. A little bit from a bunch of us is all it will take.

I Have...

The most incredibly talented friends!  Last summer photographer Kim McClellan and writer Lance Cheuvront wandered through Lance's roots in Aliquippa, PA.  It inspired them to pool their brilliance.  The result?  Quip Town, an amazing compilation of memories, history and personal impressions through photos and prose.

Go here to get your copy.  Trust me, this is just the beginning for this duo.

Tuesday Extra

Fruitless (A Rant/glut of frustration) by Lance Cheuvront.

In my opinion, this is something you need to read. Ponder it. And then go off and change your lives for the better.

"I just finished reading over a really cool article about a group called Guerilla Grafters, and I will provide a link so you can check it out too! What these people do is graft branches from fruit bearing trees onto the non-bearing varieties that cities around San Francisco plant; so that the trees will (you guessed it) bear fruit.

.

Now I have enough journalistic integrity that I also read several articles demonizing said group because of a number of reasons. Oh, and by the way, did I mention that what they are doing is illegal?

.

The opponents of the grafters, largely but not always city officials are up in arms because of a series of doomsday scenarios that they believe will play out when these trees begin to fruit, and their complaints, lead me to question their sanity and our society as a whole and I will try to be succinct about this, but damn it, you know me and I get angry…

.

Here are some, but by no means all of the reasons that everyone fears the fruit.

.

1. When the fruit ripens and falls, it will destroy cars, make a mess, be slippery and be a fall risk and attract fruit flies.

.

2. People will try and climb the trees to get the fruit higher up and fall and die horrible, broken, mangled deaths, or even worse, live on and suffer.

.

3. Dirty, homeless, hungry people will be attracted to the neighborhood and may find something to eat.

.

4. Children may discover the fruit and (god forbid) eat it and maybe ingest a bruise or a worm.

.

5. Wal-mart may suffer a loss of 0.0003% of their produce sales.

6. We as human beings may discover that we can actually GROW food and shake off the shackles of retail tyranny, and that cannot fucking happen!

.

Now that last one is mine and it reeks a bit of sarcasm, but that happens around here and you should be used to it by now.

.

I am not going to tackle this point by point, I am just going to monkeystomp all over it, like grapes into wine and let you sort it out for yourselves.

.

I want a time machine for a few reasons and one of the main ones is to go back and find the person that pressed and won the first frivolous lawsuit over something stupid that they did, I am going to find that guy and put a huge smoking bullet in his head, and make it known why. I will stand there by my monkey tardis and exclaim for all to see, “If you do something idiotic and survive it, you will not blame anyone else but yourself and you will go to your room and be silent in your shame. If you pour hot coffee in your crotch, you will not sue anyone for not telling you it was hot. If you trip walking down the street, you will pick yourself up, pray no one saw you and try harder to walk correctly next time. If you eat so much that you begin to resemble a rogue moon from a giant planet, you have no right to sue the stupid clown (whom I have another bullet for). You will not blame Cookie Monster, Nike or Johnny Knoxville for you being rotund or in a body cast. YOU decided what you were going to do, YOU live with the results. You are the reason we have been regulated into bondage you bastards.”

.

Personal responsibility is not dead, but it is very ill and lacking hospice.

.

Do you know how long we survived on this planet, whilst and at the same time harvesting our own food? Do you know how quickly our ancestors would beat the ever loving crap out of us for being ridiculous whiners and total pansies? We are so far gone from our own instincts, abilities, feelings and natural joys that when you reintroduce many people to them, they are reduced to tears because they cannot reconcile themselves to the depths of the emotion.

.

Newsflash kids; we climbed trees to get fruit. We bent over and picked carrots. We crawled through the forest harvesting mushrooms. We killed, butchered, stored, prepared and ate animals ourselves for WAY longer than we have had them waiting in frozen bins at the Wimp-o-Mart! We walked across this county, from sea to shining sea (back when the seas still shone from their own glory, not from the oil laying on the surface). We walked, and we fell and sometimes we got hurt and sometimes we died, and it was part of our natural selection which is now failing miserably. We are the only non-domesticated species on the planet that does not profit as a species from survival of the fittest and natural culling. I know some of you hate when I say this, but not all of us are on the same level, not all of us were meant to survive. (and yes, I do include myself in that quotient)

.

So the fruit is going to plummet from on high and squish your Lexus? Maybe park somewhere else for a couple weeks and walk an extra twenty three feet. Terrified of fruit flies? We have birds and insects for that, unless you have killed and driven them all off too. Worried that your precious widdle toddler is going to find a wild plum and put it in his sugar conditioned gob? Oh how terrible that he should learn that fruit comes from nature and how equally awful that he might taste something yucky and use that knowledge to better know the world. And what the fuck, you have a helmet on him so much of the time anyway that what is another couple of weeks during the harvest? Or we could just teach them about the world around them? No? You’re right… Who has time for that?

.

Oh, and the homeless may find food, how terrible that would be. In a country where the average harvest it yourself farm is claiming that about 50% of all of their produce ends up as waste because we spoiled bastards will not take a perfectly good 20 ounce tomato if it has a one tenth of an ounce bruise on it and throw it down on the ground to reach for another. How awful that the richest country in the world will not only not feed its people, but its citizens object to the hungry feeding themselves. And I know, I know, you are not really against the homeless picking fruit, but they should maybe be doing it somewhere other than your neighborhood, and maybe doing it as a job, right?

.

And while we are messing about with the time machine, let’s go back and whack the first guy that forced someone else to grow crops for him and also the first guy that thought of the idea of growing more than he needed so he could turn a profit and allowed others enough spare time to figure out a million other ways to take everything from someone else.

.

Fruit grows on trees and it used to be something wild that if we found it, we could harvest and eat it. But like the land itself, man declared dominion and ownership of it, modifying it to fit his needs and maximize his profits and marginalizing anyone who thought enough to ask, “Hey, didn’t we once have places we could get that for free?”

.

It is truly sad how petty, greedy, selfish and afraid we have become. We are now laughing around water coolers about child raping priests, the objectification of women, the loss of millions of lives to preventable diseases, and we do it all, safe in the knowledge that we can stop on the way home and pick up a bag of apples.

.

I know what an apple fresh off of a tree tastes like, before it has been coated in a corn based wax, packed in crates and trucked further than most Americans will travel in their lifetimes. I know what wild grapes, strawberries, trout, elk, and blackberries taste like, all sun warmed and perfect, but don’t you go an try it, because if you fall out of a tree, or prick your finger on a thorn, you may have trouble figuring out who to sue first."

One Voice ~ A Political Statement

Reposted with permission.

"To the gentlemen in charge of the government of this once great nation,

I am one male voice, a single but fearless voice, you will hear my words or you will not, but ignore me at your peril because your towers are no longer unassailable, your fortresses are no longer impregnable and the barbarians are restless, angry and growing more and more disillusioned by the hour.

We have, for many years now slouched in laziness before our television screens, with game controllers or remotes in our hands as your lackeys in the media ran an ever more insulting parade of what was supposed to be humanity past us in ever more highly defined detail. We as males watched ourselves carved into the stereotype of the bumbling, idiotic, bigoted fathers or husbands.

We have idly watched you generalize and commercialize our children into idiots, at your behest we left none of them behind but in doing so, we taught very few of them to climb, to fight, to strive or to think and you got what you wanted out of that, didn't you? You got entire generations too lazy, un-socialized, lacking in empathy and satisfied with the status quo to understand that something was very wrong!

We have done nothing as you have sculpted the women into either vacuous tart tit-jiggling idiots, or when you couldn’t make them fit that mold you tried to make us believe that they were tyrannical, emasculating bitches and feminists and any woman that existed between those two extremes was by your calculations fat, insecure or meaningless. Women have been made to second guess themselves into creatures that they, we and each other are terribly uncomfortable with. Beyond that, your new agenda of inserting yourselves into their wombs, their medicine cabinets and their very bedrooms and the lack of resistance you are encountering, worries the hell out of me. These are the mothers of us all, and you do not have the right to make decision for them, or truthfully, for any of us. That was not the agreement when we gave you the jobs originally.

We have very quietly gone about our ant farm lives, buying what you sell us at ever increasing costs even though we now have the technology to figure out what your profits truly are, and yet, we have been silent. We have been silent as you backed us into a box where we could be watched and controlled, and a lot of us, a majority of us fell for it. You no longer fear us, do you? You have mastered us, made us into slaves, made us into worker bees to fuel your hive, even when we rise up, you know that you have destroyed our passion and our attention spans, you have made us afraid, greedy, selfish, and unable to communicate with each other the pain we are feeling at the death of all we were.

You have taken every advantage to further your own financial agendas, gathering the coins to you until you were inundated beneath them and unaware that some of us had begun paying very close attention.

Thomas Jefferson once wrote that “The issue today is the same as it has been throughout all history, whether man shall be allowed to govern himself or be ruled by a small elite.” And “A wise and frugal government, which shall leave men free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor and bread it has earned — this is the sum of good government.”

The government of this country was formed in order to ensure the freedom of its people! That is it, and that is all. Not to become wealthy and elite, not to regulate the very minutia of our lives. Nowhere were you given the right to control our sex lives, our explorations of self, our freedom to worship or not, our ability to defend ourselves from all enemies both foreign and domestic. You were not given the right to place yourselves in our wombs, bedrooms, temples, forests, homes, in our very day to day lives, this was a right you took, a right you assumed and we allowed you to do it.

“What if Democrats and Republicans were two wings of the same bird of prey?

What if elections were actually useful tools of social control? What if they just provided the populace with meaningless participation in a process that validates an establishment that never meaningfully changes? What if that establishment doesn’t want and doesn’t have the consent of the governed? What if the two-party system was actually a mechanism used to limit so-called public opinion? What if there were more than two sides to every issue, but the two parties wanted to box you into a corner, one of their corners?” ~ Judge Andrew Napolitano

At this point, I can see only two possible outcomes, but I am just one man, one voice, but all I can see is that you may win, you may turn us all into automaton drones, marching in quiet obedient lockstep to ensure your treasure chambers are full forever for your useless, uncaring progeny. You may win and regulate us into the most boring, empty, shallow, disrespected people on our planet, a people who cannot do as they wish on any level but have been trained since birth to believe that they are happy, fulfilled and living out their greatest passions when you and I both know that those people will never be aware of what those passions might have been.

Or something else may happen. We may ignite. We may rise, explode, rebel against the chains and subtle bondage that you have wrapped us in since we were wet from the womb! We may riot, burn, rage, tear down the walls that you will hide behind when you realize that we have surpassed the fear of your guardians and are willing to die to stop you. We may decide that we are willing to die to be free! Never happen? Look to your history books gentlemen, if you still are able to find them under all the receipts and cash.

You are making us into monsters. Filling us with fear of our own hungers, desires, dreams, and making us insane with the threats against our women and children. I am but one man, but my voice sounds eerily similar to other ones I have heard rising above the din, we are talking to each other, about you, in places where you cannot listen and maybe, just maybe we are going to make it stop…"

Deep Thoughts

“Life is a prison that we carry around with us. The key to happiness is to make your prison as big as the whole world.” ~ Lance Cheuvront

Read it again.

Now think about it.

Yes, very profound. And something with which I agree completely. Now the secret, or perhaps challenge would be a better word, is to go about doing so.

I’ll need to think about this some more.

Meanwhile, back to knitting.

I Wish

I could write Haiku. Good Haiku that is. I get the pattern. I can string together words that fit. Just not good words.

Over the past few months I’ve been writing poetry again. Haven’t done that since high school. I’ve improved tremendously. Back then the things I wrote sucked really, really bad. Seriously bad as in I cringed reading it bad even though I was the one who wrote it. Now I only sorta suck. I have a half decent line now and then. Some of it I’ve even been brave enough to post on a site with real poets without total embarrassment. But I am the first to admit that I have a long, long way to go, if ever, before I’d ever label myself as a poet.

With the help of a friend’s amazing talent, I’ve also rediscovered my love for reading poetry. Lance Cheuvront. Remember that name, people for his writing is truly something to behold. I guarantee that he will come to be one of the best known poets of this era. Click here, peruse all the posts and I’m sure you’ll agree. Powerful words this man writes. He creates images like no other and takes readers right along wherever he decides to go. Go read. You’ll see what I mean. Leave him some comments so he knows you’ve visited.

Have a good weekend and write some bad Haiku for me.
